PISO PARA KAY QUERUBIN

PISO PARA KAY QUERUBIN
By: Jomar Linga

Way back last Local Election when Mr Gerald Gene “Sir Toots” Querubin reminds us about his advocacy “Piso para kay Querubin”, his technique to ask a supports to all the voters of Santa Cruz during his campaign when he runs as Municipal Councilor. Unfortunately he did not made it to the top 8 after landing into 10th place.

Sir Toots as we (SCI Students) all know is a good teacher, a journalist of Philippine Daily Inquirer, a mountaineer, and a tourism advocate who dreams that soon Marinduque will be a next tourist destination.

I met him when I enrolled the Politics and Governance subject last 2nd Semestral wherein he is the subject teacher. I don’t have any idea who is “Sir Toots” since I am a transferee here at Santa Cruz Institute last year.

The way he handled the class, the intense recitation using class cards and even the political debates and sharing opinion with him. The seminars every semesters that probably thinks “gastos lang”, “wala naman kaming napapala sa seminar” from a lot of his students. His trademark being strict to everyone of his students and a lot more.

The last time we got a communication way back when he knows that I administer the school facebook fanpage and a blogspot that named into the school itself. He says:

Sir Toots    :  Jho ung fanpage na ginawa mo alam ba ni Maam Pedro?
Ako            : “Yes sir, sinabi ko po sa kanya last year pa nun pong nagtransfer
ako,
Sir Toots    : “Hindi naman kailangang alisin basta be aware on what you posted
there.”
Ako            : “Sige sir Salamat po sa paala-ala.

Until I know that he did not made it to win as Muncipal Councilor, and as far as I know his plan is to apply for a work abroad since he can’t continue teaching in Marinduque State College (State University here in Marinduque) as required in a public or government owned institution that running in the public office have the consequence that you will resign as what your work is and 1 year of no related work to the said office.

As Santa Cruz Institute is concern he still continued his work here as College professor most especially to BSBA/COMMERCE Department.

KNOWING THE NEWS:

Until 12:15 of June 30 2013, while I am staying at Education Room waiting for my class at 1:00pm, Jordan Zulueta, a BS Education 3rd Year Social Studies major says that Sir Toots have been rushed to the Provincial Hospital in the morning that day due to heart attack. Despite that Sir Toots have the active lifestyle as a mountaineer, he have the record of heart problem as a proof is being confined last year at Manila Hospital due to symptoms of his heart problem.

12:45pm also that day when Mrs Honorata Ricamara (Education Adviser and my Major teacher) approach me that Sir Toots has gone already. DEAD ON ARRIVAL while on the the trip to Provincial Hospital in Boac. Maam Ricamara says that the ambulace is in Lamesa (Mogpog) when Sir Toots made his final sign of survival and it’s when he got peed on his pants indication that it’s the end of his journey.

Upon knowing the situation it’s too difficult for me to inform my co-CCO officer (as PIO), it’s my duty to inform them. I sent a group message to all the officials and most of them can’t believe that at his early age he passed away and be on our Almighty God.

Ambiance of the school studentry and faculty members is not unusual same situation way back when Mrs. Sherly Ricafort (also a resident teacher here at SCI) dies due to heart attack last 2011.

His advocacy for PISO PARA KEY QUERUBIN now happens when we (CCO OFFICIALS) made a solicitation to all the students as a help to his family and relatives.

“That PISO PROGRAM he wants was the unfulfilled dreams he wants! “ Jordan Zulueta says.

Sir Toots I know you are on the arms of our creator, may you rest in peace, I know you don’t have any chance to read this article but I do salute you on who you are. Thank you for such a great inspiration.

I will continue what you say:

“ MAY FUTURE KA SA PAGSUSULAT AT PAGBLOG, PAGBUTIHIN MO!”

SALAMAT SIR HANGGANG SA MULING PAGKIKITA!
